The Library is Open

The Library Committee would like to remind Friends about the library! It is close at hand, easy to use, and filled with wonders. We thought we might start up a ‘Library corner’ in the monthly newsletter, featuring a title or two from our friendly multiverse-at-your-fingertips. All are invited to contribute!

 

· The Life and Adventures of a Quaker Among the Indians, by Thomas C. Battey. The author’s account of his years setting up schools and teaching among the Caddo and Kiowa peoples, where he played a crucial role in negotiations for peace. First published in 1875, this 1953 edition contains two passages originally excised by the Board of the Society of Friends which detail the brutality of U.S. authorities during the Modoc War.

 

· Friends Cook Book, Young Friends, Evanston Monthly Meeting, 1982 (Recipes for a Useful and Contented Life). Here is a delightful entry from our beloved Ginny Laughlin:
