The First Day School’s Corner of the World: August 2022

by RE Coordinator Charlotta Koppanyi

This month’s photo depicts [see Newsletter for the photo] three Friends who grew up in Evanston Friends Meeting, have been and are involved with EFM still, and who are much loved by our younger Friends. Molly, Camille and Raphael have all participated in our First Day School, worked in the Nursery, and Raphael is still working for our First Day School program. They are great role models as well as testaments of how the program can establish a life-long community. Molly visits us each time she is in town. Camille is working for Camp Woodbroke (WI) this summer and visits when she is home from school. Raphael worked the ILYM Annual Session once again in addition to being with us each Sunday.

As we move into August, I am starting to prepare for the 2022-2023 RE program year, and we are looking for some teachers in:

  • Nursery: Norma and Raphael are in charge and all set.

  • Primary: Steven R. and Liz K. will be our main teachers, however we need a few more to be our Story Tellers and Door Keepers. We do provide a short training. We have a set schedule for our Stories, and the story baskets are complete with items/objects and texts (hard copies and electronic). Teachers can work either every other week, continuous weeks for a set time period or as needed. We work with you and your availability!

  • Intermediate: We will be studying Quakerism for the 2022-2023 year and we need teachers for this group. This is a wonderful opportunity to become a part of our young Friends life and share your knowledge, experience, and faith. We have a Quaker curriculum that will be used as the foundation. You can also be a guest teacher. Art is a part of our classroom learning and teaching.

  • Middle School: I will be leading our Middle School group. The focus will be a combination of Quakerism, teachings from the Bible, and social justice and social projects. Guest teachers are welcome! As always, art and our “time line” will be a part of the classroom teaching

If you are interested, please let Rex, Steve D, or me know. For details and training please see me. RE starts Sunday, September 11.
